My ZOAS are coming UPS today. My problem is I looked in my books & online about how much light they need and tank placement. I have read conflicting data that they need strong light MH'S all the way to being put on the sand. Could anybody with ZOAS share some advice on where they have found they do best? I have 2-250 MH'S and 2 t5's. My tank is 29" deep. Thanks.

You can put them anywhere. I have them near the sandbed under 6 T5s and they grow like weeds. (24" tall tank)

I have found them personally not to light demanding, I have them in the bottom on a 24 gallon with pc lights, and on the bottom and middle of a ten gallon with t-5s. And mine are happy where they are.

I agree, you probably heard so many different opinions because they will live in a lot of different conditions. I have them everywhere from in the shade to 5" under my 250 MH. Depending what type of bulbs you have your zoas may loose some color if they're too close to the light.

+1 on anywhere for me also

I have some on the very upper level of my reef, 6 inches or so under the T5s which includes half a colony of pink zoas
and the other half of the pink colony in a rebate on very first level of rockwork putting them 18 inches of so away from the lighting

as yet I have not noticed any difference in colour on these pink zoas between the 2 different lighting levels
I will say that the colony on the lower level is increasing in number more rapidly than its other half at the higher level

Mine seem to grow fastest under lower lighting (in the shadows) but they seem to grow anywhere.
