    guitarman89--- Interesting POV you have.

I understand that different corals have different spectral and luminous needs. I'm also under the understanding that this need is directly related to the environment in which the coral occurs naturally. Specifically, the depth at which they are found. The water column skews the spectrum and lowers the intensity of the incoming light. thats why in order for these corals to flourish in our aquariums we need to place them higher or lower in the tank. correct?

If i am correct so far then one could, in theory, produce a perfect or near perfect light that is designed to maximize PAR and/or PUR. Placement in the tank will then dictate the spectrum and LUX the coral then receives. Unless the usable spectrum is dramatically different from coral to coral. Is it??? I know that some corals grow in like twenty feet of water and some as deep as a few hundred feet. So i'm guessing that's probable. however, if that is true then does a normal 10k/460nm setup expand to such a wide range of spectrum.

I think that I have covered a pretty broad spectrum with my setup and i'm excited to see what is to come out of it!

i might just be reading too far into this topic.
