So i took a look at my tank today which is about 3 weeks old. i have had the live rock for a bout a week and a half and i had like 15-20 little white and blue star fish all over in my tank. Is this good or bad? They must be coming out of my rock and a snail came out as well. I am not sure what star fish eat and i don't know if this is good or bad that they are present any one who can help or give advice i would be greatful.
    Thanks
    Angie:confused:

I'll bet dollars to donuts you have asterina stars. Some consider them pests and others part of the clean up crew. As they are opportunistic feeders, they may dine on corals if pushed by lack of detrius, but that is unlikely. I have some in my tank, and I do not plan on eradicating them. If they get out of hand, then I will scoop out what I can see and control the population that way. And you, BTW, have hundreds of those little buggers if you saw fifteen to twenty. Not to worry though. Just a part of the ecosystem.....

ARe they long and stringy looking? They could be mini brittle stars. Also very common and good to have. Just part of your cleaning crew!
