    Hi fellow reefers,
After trying to land a job with one of the local pet shops in my area a couple of times with no luck as they never seems to need help at the time I have asked.
Since this, there is another pet shop in the area that has been taken over by new management and they find themselves remodeling, adding tanks, setting up frag tanks and more coral tanks for business and are in desperate need of help! But of course, not just any help knowledgeable help as their is only one employee that is working in the fish department.
Because I have developed a repore with the pet shop and have purchased corals and inverts from them, I have gotten to know the head of the aquarium department and have let him know of my skills, knowledge and abilities within the aquarium hobby, both fresh and salt.
I think I can offer alot of professional knowledge in all aspects of the hobby from livestock to the equipment and technical aspect of the hobby as well.
Because of this, I have landed a part time job with the pet shop to coincide with my foreman position in the construction business!
I am psyched as this should be a fun, rewarding and enjoyable job, fragging and helping out hobbyists, whether expert of novice!
Moreover, I hope to be able to help aquarists to gain a better understanding of the hobby so that the mentality isn't just to buy something because it looks pretty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By being able to enlighten people...hopefully I can also act as a liason between the animal and human race. Hopefully I can save livestock from enduring a fate that often times carries out by aquarists that make the wrong decision, are not as knowledgeable or lack the conscientious attitude regarding the delicate and valuable life under the sea or in the freshwater environments as well.
If I can save a life or atleast give livestock a better chance at a healthy life, then my accepting the position is relevant and worth while. Moreover, If I can offer info and educate fellow aquarists, hopefully this can make a difference as well!

Thats excellent news, for you, the store, the livestock and for future reef keepers
most people I am sure ,set off with the best of intentions in this hobby, but many succumb to things like impulse buying, buying to much to quickly and bad advice from people who want their Benjamins, more than they care about the life forms ( not judging, just stating)

I have only been here a couple of months, but have obviously formed opinions on the relative abilities of people on this site

my honest opinion is that your possibly wasted in the constructuction industry and
I would like to think, that eventually you could make a career for yourself in doing something you so obviously enjoy and something you have aquired skills and experience at doing

enjoy the job, but remember, you do need to at least allow the public to buy some of the items, you cant possibly take it all home on staff sales!

I feel the same as you but don't let management catch you persuading a customer not to buy something just cause it looks pretty, most lfs are in it for the money and will sell you something knowing it will die just so they can tell you that you did something wrong and will sell you something to fix the problem, especially with the economy like it is. Hate that but thats the way most of them are around here. I hope the store is not like that where you can openly and properly educate people on this complex, addicting, hide the receipts for equipment from my wife....(did I say addicting?) hobby.
