As the title says... I'm considering buying a Mandarin Dragonet. I fell in love with these fish before I started this addic..err hobby, and it might have been the reason that I took the plunge to SW in the first place. Please chime in if you think that I am finally ready for one or not, and also any other advice you may have.

    75 gal. reef tank.
    10 gal. fuge
    ~135-140 lbs live rock.
Tank has been running for a little over a year.
4 clowns, 1 blue tang (I know I will need to rehome, please do not hijack my thread!), 1 fire shrimp, More then likely will get another flame angel (last one jumped, now have an eggcrate lid), and probably a few more shrimp.

My fuge is crawling with huge pods (not sure on the type, ordered a mixture to seed tank when I started it up (dry rock/sand)). I have never seen this type in the DT, but lots of rockwork so they could easily hide. At night I can see alot of small white pods on the lowest 1/4 of the glass, and in the fuge (not as many in the fuge that I can tell, probably a diff. type of pods that possibly fight?)

With this info, do you believe that I am ready to get this little guy? I would be crushed If I finally got one and it died. I would be willing to buy additional pods for a time/try to ween him onto additional foods if needed. Currently feeding NLS pellets and phyto feast (thinking to switch almost exclusively to Rod's original reef) if this helps.

I think you will be fine. Why is the blue tang a worry? I have never heard of blue tangs and mandarin being trouble together. (just realized you were referencing tang police for the small tank)

You'll be fine and the Mandarin will love his/her new home! May I recommend the Tisbe Copepods. Google search and you'll find many sellers. Good luck and enjoy your Mandarin :)
