Unfortunately my uncle was killed in that accident. His wife lost a leg and almost perished as well. They were only in their low twenties and still newlyweds. That was about 30 years ago, but its hard not to still think about it at car purchase time. Prior to finding my v8 audi Allroad(rare car), I nearly bought a newer pathfinder. Good suvs but the opportunity to buy a very hard to find car that did it all was too much to pass up.

Subie. Offers a Cvt in a few cars. Never heard anything bad even from motor journalists..

But yeah, twin clutch autos are the bizniz now. Heck, they work so well that there is only 1 model of Ferrari available with a conventional 3 pedal normal stick shift. All the rest have twin clutch autos because they are faster and better than normal stick trannies.

Repeatedly I see on top gear, the British version, that they are horrible for stop and go traffic though. Now I assume its because they are super cars and not meant to sit in traffic but how well does it transfer to something like a lancer?

I would like to help but, I feel the need to do this in a way that I will not upset my superiors at work ;), soo.. I will share "a story" ;););)
My friend was having trouble getting our local Nissan dealer to fix "a known problem" with his 2005 Pathfinder. Another friend of ours (a 13 year experienced nissan master technician) told him to call Nissan's complaint department. 1800NISSAN1
He was quickly contacted by the service manager, the same one who blew him off before. They then happily fixed the "known problem". Sometimes lighting a small fire under the right seat bottom gets better results.
If you don't feel comfortable with your repair PLEASE call Nissan.
    Best of luck.

Some supercars are like that, but those are supercars and meant to be driven hard, not for daily commutes. Cars that are designed for every day use don't really seem to have this problem for the most part.
Uk top gear is also very biased toward traditional manuals.

In seasons past yes they were but as of season lately not as much. I think they have come to terms with having to deal with the fact that most are moving to the "flappy paddle gear box" as they would call it lol.

Nissan is bringing back the Datsun name. (I HIGHLY SUSPECT that this is because of all of the bad word on the Internet about some of the Nissan products and they are just going to take the same vehicles and slap the Datsun name on them so all of the bad brand names no longer applies to that vehicle).

This is an attractive vehicle. I will admit that. She has the Krom version. Unfortunately, it's worthless!!! Cruise Control breaks, handles for the back hatchback fall out, you can't turn the passenger air vent or it stops blowing, sounds like a sewing machine on cold mornings, doesn't even REMOTELY come close to the gas mileage numbers on the sticker, and on and on. I would prefer she had an ugly vehicle where she wasn't stomping the gas pedal to the floor and going 1 cm/minute while another vehicle is braking hard to not T-Bone her.

I'm weird. Living while driving an ugly vehicle seems to trump dieing in an attractive vehicle.
