Only in that it helps to break down organics a little better to allow them skimmer to pull them out. Stop feeding so much and lighten the bio load must be feeding a lot of frozen meat stuff . Thats the main cause over feeding and most /all frozen stuff is loaded as are most flakes . Nitrates are then end of the chain and if you did not have them then thats a sign that the upper bacteria are not doing their jobs with ammonia and nitrites . I myself use a Ozone/fuge/ top of the line skimmer/light feeding and a DSB in the fuge and a denitrater coil . I'm allowing my NO3 to get to just detectable on the test scale now a little less then 1. ppm as well as PO4s to see if my corals respond and color up better ? I feel water can be to clean maybe .

water too clean?? absolutely. I found this when I had my little 50 gallon sps tank up and I kept bleaching corals. I was using a skimmer that was rated at 300 gallons which I think whould have been great for a 150 but too much for a 50. My sps started to bleach a bit and I knew it couldn't be because of the lights. At that point I started dosing some amino acids and trace elements and before long, my coralstarted to color up for me. which none of this answers your question.=)
