Would it be possible to convert an AquaC Urchin in-sump skimmer to a hang-on? Or at least run it in a small hang-on refugium some how? Would it still be effective?

I'm looking to get rid of my sump and can rig up all my other necessary equipment, but I haven't figured out how to keep the Urchin yet.... I don't exactly want to buy a new HOT skimmer when I have a perfectly good one now.

    Thanks for any help!

I know, but is was a quick example and it comes with a skimmer. There are others with out the skimmer and a fair bit cheeper...

Why are you getting rid of the sump?
You can't really convert an in-sump skimmer to HOB, as they are designed to work within a set water level. You could figure out a way to run it in the tank hanging on the lip though.

Why not convert your sump into a refugium, your system will benefit 10 fold by doing that. If you absolutely wanted to convert your Urchin, you would have to glue stablizer bocks on the bottom so it stays parallel to the tank. Then you would have to modify the outlet port to be routed into the tank. Then you would have to shorten the intake tubing, which is easy enough. The rest would be a serious job though, too much work if you ask me.
