    hey guys,

so ive got a meter for a koi pond that measures the salt level in % by its conductivity i believe. (it uses 2 probes)... basically, im sure an expensive meter such as this one is more accurate than my plastic hydrometer so i am wondering of there is a conversion between the two. I know, I know, i should get a refractometer, but the meter i have is actually much more expensive so to find out a conversion would be awesome! i just tested my tank and my plastic hydro reads 1.022 ( a little low i know) and the meter reads 1.84%. Because SG is unit-less, I cant convert ppt to % blah blah blah you get the picture. thanks for the help!

this is the one i have

looks like this thing is made for use in fresh water and the scale range goes nowhere near high enough for a saltwater tank.
this is the what I found on it.

Trans Instruments has specially designed the KoiMedic tester to measure the delicate salt concentration in the pond. The testers are accurate and easy to use. All you need to do is turn it on and dip into the pond water.

The Koi Medic provides accurate results and is very easy to use, simply turn on and hold in the pond. Within a couple seconds the LCD displays the salt concentration measured in percentage. Measures accurately from .01% to 1%.

Salt concentrations between 0.3% and 0.5%(3 to 5ppt) will upset the osmotic balance of some parasites i.e. the parasites’ cells will dehydrate. Salt concentration of 0.3% are effective at detoxifying nitrite and concentration of 0.25% or higher has been used to control string algae. Nevertheless, salt can cause pond plant damage as the concentration increases.

You can get a refractometer on ebay for $20 to $30.
