I'm still very much in the assembly process here so ignore the stand its just my frame and will be trimmed up and sealed up later. This is my reef octopus wet/dry sump that I just converted to a fuge using the existing pieces and a valve an tubing and silicon.

I'm waiting on my float valve to do the pluming, but its going to be from let to right : two socks, heater, chiller element thing I have, skimmer, wall, second wall has "skip the mud" tube with on off valve in between to regulate flow rate of what goes into the middle mud section as a pressure escape to the third section/return. The first part of the third return box is separated with the old black wet/dry crate piece and will hold 4 or 5 baseball sized pieced of live rock just in between the foam pad and the return area/pump.

Anyone see any problems or suggestions? Honestly I have no clue what I'm doing but it feels right. That old vortex diatom "d1" you see in the pic, anyone have a idea what I'm going to turn that into?

Any thoughts on mud in my setup? If I should put sand over mud and what ratio? any input would be cool even if critical I'm very much learning here.

Here would be plan B setup, with black tray moved from chamber 3 to chamber 1. skimmer from 1 to 3, and live rock from 3 to 1 with increased size/amount of live rock.

I got carried away with paint and painted the mud/sand/cheato :)

The only thing I see wrong with setup plan-B is the limited size area for the skimmer in length width. height is already a problem for some tall skimmers it might be hard to find one with such a small footprint for planb specs with the return pump also fitting.
