you'll need 2, honestly I HATE these lights because I wish I waited and bought 2 of these instead of my rapidled, my rapids are better and have a better color spectrum and much more controllable, but these things are great and cheap! that being said, now that I can control the look of my tank at will to show friends, i'm glad i have what I have. Decisions!:)

I wonder if you can modify these and change out the diodes for other colors and or at a sunset/rise controller.

I don't think so, but you can do is add ecoxotic stunner strips or build your own color led strips from rapidled again, lol, and add any colors you want for about $150 or so depending on what you want

That thread has me leaning towards them. Would be nearly what I pay up front for my t5 with ati bulbs. I just can't get over the thought of hanging fixtures falling into my tank.

I have an idea. If I do go the LED route, I'll build a hood and place a piece of 1/4 inch plywood inside of it, a portion of the way down from the top. I will cut a square opening slightly larger than the bottom (side with the lights since it's smaller than the top) and rest the light unit in said square (and probably attach the cords to the very top of the canopy). I will cut two squares, one for each light on each side of the tank.

nice idea, I'd upgrade to a hard wood though, spend 2-3 more dollars for some piece of mind.
