Ok I have been trying to figure out a way to put sand in my tank without spending too much dough. (don't have alot) I think i've found it. I learned the word "dolomite" on this site from tangster. It's almost the same chemical make up as arag just mined from a different part of the world. The problem with using dolomite has been the grain size. Always too large and traps detriutus. sp! Well while looking at lowes for play sand to use I found dolomite lime sand. SAND!!! The grain size is tiny .17 to 1.7. it's a nice color too. I'm going to rinse the crap outta this stuff and give it a whirl. for 3 bucks for 40 lbs, I don't think you can beat it.

this is not play sand at all. it's the same chemical make up as arag. It doesn't contain silica at all. I'm very hopeful for this

You may be on to something here. If it works I would love to know for my eventual 180-300 gal(By eventual I mean eventual. Like, 10 years from now=))

it's great sand. No complaints thus far. If you rinse it really well though you'll lose about half the sand because it's really fine. I do recommend a long rinse

Got some pics of what it looks like in the tank? This could work out nicely... did you seed with any live sand?
