    *update*

OK so I did a saltwater order today from my wholesaler and he just so happened to have a wartskin angler in. $50 Wholesale. I called him up and verified that he was eating live ghost shrimp and found out he was in a SG of 1.019 so tonight I will lower my salinity to match. The shipment should arrive at the shop tomorrow morning and I'm going to drive this guy straight home still in the bag and plop him in.

I will def be posting pics and keeping you guys updated. My wife was a little sad that my supplier didnt have the species of seahorse she wanted and she was disappointed that the frogfish just sits there motionless, but I'm pretty stoked about it.

I've got some ghost shrimp coming in and I also breed several species of freshwater shrimp so I'm sure I'll find something to feed him until I get him weaned. Wish me luck!

I wouldn't recommend lowering your SG. All of our pets come from the ocean where they have evolved for hundreds of thousands to millions of years. The SG of NSW is 1.026. I fail to see the logic in deviating from that. I'd like to see an actual scientific study on the long-term effects of maintaining a lower SG vs acclimating fish, etc back to what they're used to.

This is not permanent. The reason I have lowered my salinity to 1.019 is because this is what the fish has been living in at the wholesaler, and I want to make the acclimation from bag water to my tank as stress free as possible. Once He is acclimated and eating well, I will slowly raise the salinity to 1.025 over the course of a few weeks. Alot of wholesalers, Including my LFS, keep our sell tanks at 1.019. When I get a shipment of a hundred fish, I dont have time to acclimate them, and it can sometimes be dangerous due to the amount of ammonia build up in the bag water. Se we simply float the bag for 20 mins to adjust for temperature and net them right in. The idea is to get them into clean water as soon as possible, and from 1.019 to 1.025 could easily cause lethal shock to the fish.

Definitely agree with your reasons. As long as the change is done slowly, it shouldn't affect your beneficial bacteria.

BTW, congratulations and good luck! :)

Bill there are alot of places in the world where marine life live in very different SG of saltwater. Anywhere from 1.020-1.030 in reef settings.

OK i realize its no fun without pics. Here the tank is , cycled but still young. Plan on having some green and red macro filling in the rocks. Notice my ghetto rigged light? its an old hood to a 28 gallon nano cube that cracked on me. lol
