Clowns for sure. I dont think Ill ever have another tank without clowns. But my favorite fish in my 30 gallon is my McKosker's flasher wrasse.

Saltwater Aquarium Fish for Marine Reef Aquariums: McCosker's Flasher Wrasse

I just realized that it says minimum tank size of 50 gallons from LiveAquaria. Ooops. lol But my little guy is very happy. He is currently in his terminal stage and converting to full adult coloration. Lots of personality, he really loves the rockwork so he is always coming in and out of the caves and tunnels in the rock.

I think a flasher, in the right 30g tank with plenty of hiding would be fine! I vote for flasher wrasse too, so much more fun, but a clown is a clown and hard to beat.

FWIW - in my 26 cube I have:
    (2) ORA Bangaii Cardinals
    (1) Coral Beauty
    (1) Sixline Wrasse (just introduced!)

The Cardinals are great reef fish (get captive bred) - great looking, swim out front, easy to feed.

The Coral Beauty is a beautiful fish but a dice roll. Mine nipped a clam to death and chomped up a milli colony. HOWEVER, it is cool with what seems like over a dozen acros I currently have. I love the fish but just have to selective with coral. I stick to acros now.

    Sixline is great so far.

    Some things I've realized...
I have a majority of meat eaters which means I have to feed more than I want too.
Finding a serious algae eater that would be happy in a small tank is hard.

I'd love a fancy Wrasse like the one above but I passed because of size and I have an open top. Some wrasses require sand and I don't have that either.

Anyway, not sure if this babbling helps but that is my experience with a similar tank.

Look forward to hearing what you get...

Any incredibly rare fish that will fit IMO, Magnificent shrimp gobies are pricey and very rare but are AMAZING!

If budget isn't an issue I'd get the Dracula goby over a barred one. Pricey, but more distinct pattern and can also be paired with a pistol shrimp. Dracula goby is my next fish after I just got my semi Picasso clown pair.

What about a lawnmower blenny Matt? I would think one could go in a smaller tank and they seem to love algae....

Probably right but I think I am maxed out and I would think (might be wrong) that blennies are jumpers. (Don't want to derail the thread with my stuff too much - just wanted to share since I have a similar tank. ;) )
