are you all counting cuttlefish as fish? :)

one of the coolest fish I have ever seen was at the Shedd Aquarium, where they have a coldwater display with quite a few grunt sculpins:

how about anglerfish? I used to have one like this:

another cool fish that gets big, and I've seen it in public aquaria, is the trumpetfish. they look like giant pipefish, and will sometimes hunt fish by hitching a ride and hiding on the back of another (non-predatory) fish:

I had one of these once, a walking batfish:

There are so many cool looking fish. And that's not counting the deep sea freaks that you never see in real life...

:stop: NO HOTLINKING ALLOWED ! :stop:

Most of these images are illegally posted here. Hotlinking is where you display an image directly from another site. This eats up their bandwidth on their server and does not give them any credit for their image. Many of these images have copyrights on them!

If you want to have people look at an image on another site - post a link to the webpage on their site that contains the image so that they get the credit and the traffic for their cool image.

I removed the display on the images shown in this thread, but the links really should go to the web page instead of the image.

Admittedly, I have not followed these guidelines in the past, but I try to follow them now. Please do the same.

Further direct links posted will just result in the post being removed.

I've kept cuttlefish (sepia bandensis) before. Cephalopods are what got me into aquariums. They are amazing. It's not impossibly hard or anything; it could probably be done by an intermediate reef or FOWLER aquarist that is well researched and has some spending money. The main problem is feeding them when they are young. A lot of people spend thousands of dollars on mysis shrimp. I was able to use frozen mysis by putting to there tentacles (they have taste buds there) and they would latch on to it. The reason they mostly cannot be kept for more than a few months is that's just there natural.

No copper. Not only not treating with copper, they can't even be in an aquarium that has had water in it from another aquarium that once treated with copper. The trace amounts of copper that are absorbed through the silicone or acrylic (glass?), are enough to lead to their death.

The ones I most recently had just passed due to an ill-calibrated refractometer. I was ticked off.... such a simple fix for all of the money I had into the setup. Come to find out, they are surprisingly hardy- 6 weeks @ 1.033. My reef was higher, but still did really well (I was mostly keeping Red Sea xenias). I didn't even know anything could survive at that level.
