The Nano Wave 9 nano cube is starting to irk me. The lighting is so stinkin hot, the water heats up to around 80-82 in a matter of a few hours. Then it drops to 77, what the heater keeps it at at night. The heater goes off after the temp passes what it's set to control at, so I know it's the lights. But it seems there's no "not annoying" way to cool this thing. My mom won't let me lead the feeding hatch open because the light annoys the snot out of her, and a mini chiller is way out of budget. I kind of want to just take the hood off and go open top with a seperate fixture hanging over the tank.

    Any ideas?

An ice pak in the back compartment of the tank, if you get one that has the chemicals in it, i would put in a ziplock baggie so theres no chance of toxins getting into the tank. Every once in a while i have to do this in the summer with my nano, seems to work pretty good.

This works well once in a while, but you would have to change it a few times a day. I actually need the same question answered. I was looking into a nanocube 24 as my seahorse tank.

Yeah I was thinking with 80 degree water, an ice pack isn't going to last long.

I dunno. This is winter still, and I'm having to worry about cooling. I hate the lights, I kind of just want to ditch them. Go for a hanging setup or something. I don't need 5 watts per gallon anyways, it's a mantis shrimp tank. They like lower light to begin with. And I want a stable temp before my pride and joy gets ordered and goes in there.

I have never had to use more than one pack a day.

Like I said above, the ice pack would melt over the course of the day. It would help for maybe a couple hours, but sooner or later it would melt and be rendered useless unless you changed it continually throughout the day. I've read that if you change out the pump it can help. Apparently it runs pretty hot and changing it can cool you down by up to 3 degrees.

You're talking about the pump in the Aqua Medic Nano Wave 9, right? If so, that's the best news I've heard all day.

Welcome to the world of cubes ;)

I've heard of success by simply proping the lid up a little bit to create airflow. Or you can always do the mods. nanocustoms.com has great nano hood mods. But, I don't know if they have anything for yours yet jwin

Propping the lid up makes the super bright light shine through, which also bugs my mom. She cares more about the looks than the tempurature and wellbeing of the creatures anyways :p

I'd like to hear more about that pump replacement business. But i'll check out nanocustoms as well.

Ok I did find this: nanocustoms And I did save a wad of cash by using my own stand. Soooo...:D I might try this out. Supposed to have a 2-3 degree drop. That's good enough for me.
