ok so my lights on my DT in the summer get hot enough to push my temp> in the tank to 80-84 F. so one day i put my small room fan by the side opening of the canopy, and crank it up blowing the air straight over the water. in a couple of hours, it had cooled it down from 82 F to 77 F. it was great.

so i bought some cooling fans online ( Azoo Cooling fans 4 unit) and im debating where to put them.

should i place them inside the canopy? or could i possibly put them under, above my sump/fuge, and still get the water temp drop effect?

if anyone has done this, or experience. please let me know.

    -thanks ;)

mine are in the walls of the canopy and work very well at dispersing the heat. the only downside i see to that placement is that it will accelerate your water evaporation which isn't a big problem for me. i have one on each side. i took that pic right before i installed my mh's

I added a bracket underneath in the cabinet and use a clip on fan (about 6" diameter) blowing into the sump. It does help but evaporation has increased so stay on top of your top off water.

I am in Phoenix and have both canopy and a sump fan. The canopy has a single Vantec Stealth 4" computer fan in each end, both blowing in along the length of the bulbs and tank and eit holes are in the roof of the canopy to take advantage of convection as well as forced air.
The sump has a Wal Mart clip on fan ($8) clipped over the sump blawing across its length and works fantastic.
I think you need both for best cooling, the canopy fans remove the heat from the lights plus some evaporation and the one in the stand really works great for evaporative cooling and is not seen.

My 1/4 HP chiller has not run since April 2008, I cool by fans only now since getting an auto topoff device which is almost a must with fans!

I have two 4" "massey" desktop fans from walmart in either end my canopy, after I added those my temp dropped about 1-2*. Recently I hooked up an ATO to a RO/Di and figured since evaporation didn't matter anymore I would try a sump fan. It dropped my temp by 3-4*, and now I have to run a heater to keep my tank at 80 day and night until I get the sump fan hooked to a timer.

in my hardware configuration y have 2 120mm fans working with a 12 volt transformer working in the sump chamber at 1 hour turns...one bring the air in an the other out it works with the humidity on the sump chamber.

(sorry for my enlgish level it is poor once again y say it im from chile)
