Now I have had my DT running for a month with a couple of clowns and clean up crew, everything is stable and I want to add a couple more fish. I decided to take most of the advice given on these boards regarding a QT.

The problem I have is I live in Borneo, so the temp is constant all year around, and it's very humid. I have no heater in my QT yet the water is hitting 85-86. I run a chiller on my DT, but that isn't an expense I want to invest in for the odd occasion I buy a fish.

So I was wondering what the best way is that I could drop the temp in the QT.

Even with high humidity, a fan blowing across the tank should cool it the few degrees you need.

Thanks AZ, I will try that. What would be the highest I should be looking at, assuming I can't get it down the 77 of the DT tank

Mine sits around 80 degrees during the day with no problems. I agree with using a fan to blow across the top of the tank. I would think that you could also use a power head to agitate the water surface as well.

    agreed with eveything above

    just wanted to add
for the QT you do not need lighting , so if thats a source of heat, reduce or remove that

if the temp stays pretty stable and gets there slowly, I have found no problems with fish at tanks 84 or slightly higher
same with corals - softies and LPS

I assume its a QT for fish anyway, and IME they are not as concerned with temp as some corals are.

if there is a large fluctuation between night and day, and the tank reaches 84 to quickly for example after being sub 80 during the night this could be a cause of stress and trigger parasitic episodes in the fish

so if your tank was going to reach 84- 85 during the day, having a heater/thermostat in it to prevent it dropping below 83 at night, would be a better scenario IMO

Thanks for all the replies. Steve I don't have lighting. Just a small powerhead, HOB and a piece of LR.

I did manage to fix the problem though, I adjusted the aircon unit. and the QT isis currently at 79. Makes life a little cold for me, but I will nip out tomorrow and buy a clip on fan. Then try to turn the aircon up a bit :)

    Thanks again
