    If I used a plastic instant ocean hydrometer to measure a QT tank with copper in it should I be scared to use it to make regular water?

    It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    No just rinse it but in the future get two hydrometers.

    Or better yet a refractometer, which will never touch water in the tank :)
