I have an RO/DI unit which gets its supply of water from copper pipes. I assume the RO/DI which is supplying 0 TDS water has completely removed any traces of copper.

A LFS owner suggested an RO/DI may not remove all traces of copper and they may not show up on a TDS meter.

Surely any trace of copper would show up, since isn't a TDS meter measuring conductivity and copper is one of the most conductive elements?

I haven't had any problems but just want a second opinion that copper pipe before the RO/DI filter is fine.

I believe copper is removed both since it is very conductive and because my house is plumbed with copper and I have had no detrimental effects to the reef.

I am interested in what other people say though so im tagging along. maybe AZdesert rat will know something

My entire building uses Cu piping, in fact, I believe most plumbing is Cu. I have not had any problems with Cu either.

I get the feeling they sell RO/DI water and where trying to get another customer to buy some.

LOL, copper is super conductive. It would definitely show up on a TDS meter, moreso than most other traces.

    Gogo great LFS...

sales pitch for a Cu test kit maybe lol. I guess that Cu line in his store doesnt leave traces. And I guess his water meter is plastic.

I'd bet half of the ro/di units out there have copper plumbing somewhere b4 the filter

Copper is a non issue if its before a RO or RO/DI system. Copper is easy since it only takes carbon to adsorb it. Its not much of an issue anyway since the EPA enacted the Lead and Coper Rule for drinking watre systems years ago which forces water providers to treat for copper. Its not treated to reef quality levels but is greatly reduced if it is present and its one of the only EPA rules that applies at the customers tap and not at the treatment plant or source which can change.
