I bought a cora life 125 for my 60 gallon fresh water tank 3 days ago and was absolutly excited to see how it would work. It says to leave it go for 3 days to "break in" wich I have, still nothing. It seems the bubbles are about the size of a smaller pencil eraser, and there are plebty of them. The skimmers I have seen at freinds houses have super tiny bubbles that make the canister almost completly white, and on my new skimmer it looks like huge huge bubbles with no sign of them getting smaller. Here are my handfull of questions:
    1. Break in period refers to exactly what "breaking in"
    2. What the hell is with these huge freakin bubles?
    3. the esu ( Coralife) website seems to notg be working, any idea who else I could speak too?

The skimmer is set up according to the design specs. I have played with the depth of the powerhead to see if that would reduce the size of the bubbles. The power head is clean, air tubes are clean and the exaust hose is removed of the bubble diffuser to help see if my problem is with back pressure. I have a moderate load of fish with full co2 planted tank combo in it as well. Thanks for the help in advance , i would hate to kill the mans wife who sold this to me. Thankyou -jj

It may take a few weeks to break it in and the term refers to running it long enough to rid the skimmer of all the oils and cleaners used in the process of it's being made and the materials it was made from.
Also if the tank is not loaded with DOC's or old enough then there is not any need for bubbles in the skimmer also Salinity and carbonate levels play a huge role in the type of bubbles it makes .

I dont believe you can or need for that matter run a scimmer on a FRESH WATER set up. From what you wrote your tank is a fresh water set up right?
There is not enough surface tension in fresh water for a simmer to work.

    planted tank

I have personally never run a skimmer on a freshwater, but I have the corallife superskimmer and it worked within the first couple minutes.

On another note, it probably isnt the best idea to run a skimmer on a planted tank. You run the co2 to saturate the water with co2, the skimmer is going to fight that and add o2. Also the DOC (dissolved organic compounds) are what most of the plants feed on.

    For what its worth

You can't skim freshwater.. Its the surface tension casued by the Salt that maks skimming possible at all.. Frewswater can't be skimmed. ;D I must have missed that little tid bit My bad ..
