From what I've read, after six hours they're all dead. Then you run carbon to clean the water before re-introducing your inverts.

Corailline that's some awesome growth on those corals above!!! It'll be quite satisfying when I can achieve that in my tank ;) !!

    Corailline,
Your tank looks amazing. I hope you are winning the battle against the bugs. BTW, your YWG really does look particularly gray in the pic i saw a few pages prior to this one. How long have you had him?

I never win the stare down either. It tends to be a losing battle, doesnt it?

Your tank is awesome as well Nismo. You have some quality sps going on!!!!

    Hey Thank You Indiana,

Day after tomorrow the treatment begins, so I am happy to see the end is near.

Goby is 3 years old, he was your average YWG when I go him. About a year later he started to turn the grey with brown strips. I researched it, a few said it was stress ( he was not stressed ) but most said it happens to some YWG with age and maybe an indication of gender.

He eats like a pig, he is brave enough to take on the female clownfish and has even bitten her a time or two ( I am not that brave ).

I love to watch the physical cues he gives the pistol, like back off, quick down the hole, stay away. Evolution sure does some strange and interesting stuff.

    :)

Indeed it does, the marvels of science are many;D

I have a new pistol shrimp en route, BTW. i was forced to change my other tiger pistol shrimps classification from wayward to MIA(it makes my sad. my first loss:cry: ). i have began target feeding my goby a little bit more i see him picking at the sand and rocks throughout the day, but i like to know that he gets his belly full. the only thing i can assume is that maybe the shrimp died in a molt or didnt get enough food (???)

    anyways back to your thread...
how long have your tiger pistol shrimp and your YWG been together? and how big was your pistol when you got it? how big is it now?

    thank you

Unfortunate about your pistol, I was pretty confident he would show up eventually.

I got the goby and shrimp together, the shrimp was about 1/4 inch and now probably a little over an inch. I target feed goby for the first year, he was so shy. As soon as the lid open he was gone and stayed that way. Now most times he tolerates the intrusion.

I would say the shrimp probably molts about once a month. I will not see him for about 4 days straight, after that it is back to trying to drag my frags down the burrow. Honestly the time he spends molting is a very welcome break from the stand storm and frag displacement.

Thank you. I am anticipating the arrival of my new pistol (assuming the lfs can get it. I will know soon). My pistol would pile my small cerith snails in huge piles outside the burrow. NTM I have tons of available snails available for piling.

They are so fascinating to watch together.YWG/pistol shrimp pairs really add lots of life to the aquarium. They are always hustling and bustling.

I am a why??? person. Drives some people insane, but I just like to know the reason why things act or behave in a certain manner.

About once a week all the acropora will show this night PE. No changes during the day, nothing added, no food introduced and all within the same time period.

Is the condition of the water just right?
Is it a chemical cue that one sends out and the others react in the same manner?
Combination of the 2 or even more varibles, inquiring minds want to know.

I got this frag on Dec 19 2010.

Now about 2 weeks later Jan 6 2011.

Thanks for viewing and any observations as to way corals show a certain type of PE at certain times appreciated. :)

    aww no! red bugs :(

THATS NOT GOOD! but at least the fix is super easy! Did you get a full treatment regimen and the directions okay? If not we have the treatment on file at the PSU tank so I can send you copies if you need them.

on a good note though, the PE is pretty awesome! i think it is just a happy coral trying to feed. It might also be the coral itself. I have had this one acro for a few years and it just loves my tank and as happy as can be! it has that PE every night, while on the other hand my others only have it 1 or 2 nights a week
