I worked at the Pacific Marine Mammal center for 8 years. These were some pups I rescued and helped raised, and yes that is me holding them.

The Sea Lion pup is about to get a bath and the Harbor Seal is getting weighed after rescue.

No in California, all the marine mammal rescue and rehabilitations are now named Pacific Marine Mammal Centers in California.

Yeah, Ft. Cronkite, on the Marin Coast is just a mile up the coast from the Golden Gate Bridge, SF, California....I was wondering because sometimes we are asked to take rehabilitated pups out to the Farallon Islands to release. Once, two were being released, and they got eaten by a Great White, it was very sad for the biologists on the boat.

We used the Coast Guard all the time for releases and hard rescues, I think they like being involved with the Pacific Marine Mammal Center, at least they always seemed to enjoy them selfs (SeaWorld not so much).
Yes that would be sad having gone through all hardship of raising a pup and then bam gone, but at the same time probably a rare chance to see a Great White in action.

Yeah in the Bay Area, they use charter boats to do the releases at the Farallons

Rough bumpy cold long rides all the way, but worth it. We usually released several at a time so it had to be a private vessel. If you are going that far out you might as well stock up on the Sea Lions. :)
