does he eat prepared on a regular basis? it will be a different transition for him but it is totally possible.

also, the move will be a change in the environment for the corals so I have to say the best attitude to have is to expect losses and be happy with what all survives. if you do it smart and slow you can really minimize any issues :)

You could always keep a small container of sand on the bottom for him. Maybe even slowly take sand away from the container; eventually eliminate it?

Yes he does eat all foods offered and does not really sift that much. I am hopeful that with a caves and rubble in the corner he may be OK. If I see skin issues or decline in weight I may just add sand.

All rock, some sand, all water will go into the 10 gallon, with the same lighting and the korailas. I am putting the sponge media in as well. It's not ideal, but the image below is an area were I removed the GSP less than 3 months ago. It's a huge issue that needs to be dealt with before it gets more out of hand

@dowtish, well I guess will be a beta tester and if he looks stressed I have sand on hand.

    Thanks silor,

It's of my own doing. I knew better on the gsp, resisted buying it for years. But this was going to be a softy tank, best laid plans right. It was just so pretty growing on the back wall at the lfs. And so was that pretty little majano anemone that I allowed to grow for a couple months before it went nuts.

I have to say I am really looking forward to having a nice clean black back and no sand. New adventure.

I will put some images up of the corals in the holding tank when it's all arranged.

So far so good though. ;D

Dangg corailline! That GSP is crazyyy everywhere. I was thinking I might stick a piece of mine on the back and have to grow on the glass, but I'm starting to rethink that after reading your posts.. I'll make sure to stay on top of its growth. Looks like you need to give away some gsp frags though! or colonies..or sheets I guess hahha.

So I have a random question for you.. Your old avatar, the one with the red acro I think it was.. I was curious, how big was that piece when you first got it, and how long did it to grow out to what it is now?

    Hey aw1447, ;D

Yeah I can not even give the stuff away, gsp that is. Some people love the look on the back wall, some not so much.

The last avatar was my Red Planet. Fast grower and hardy.

First image was the frag I got 1 year ago, and last avatar was 11 months of growth.

Then the next is my first fragging of that same coral. Fragged on Feb 1st, image right after fragging, new image of coral on May 26th, 4 months of growth. If you can get a piece and you like sps go for it.

It's definitely an awesomeee piece you have there. I was wondering, because I have a small frag of acropora.. I'm not really sure what type it is specifically.. But I've had it for probably a month or so, and it's grown just a littleee little bit. It has great polyp extension and good color compared to what it looked like when I got it.. I just figured acro's were slow growers. I have a purple digi frag that was a little knub when I got it, and its started to branch out every which way. I'm actually really happy about that one :). But it looks like yours grows pretty fast! Does growth just differ among acro species or what?

Most definitely, growth differs greatly, depending on type, and secondly conditions.

I have a strange pieces called Langston's Seafoam, never found any other ID, in 8 months probably a 1/4 of inch. Tortuosas grow really slow for me but in members 2in10 tank it grows much faster.

Over all though RP is for the most part a fast grower, with growth increasing in proportion to size, the bigger it's the faster it grows generally.

You should put up an image of your un-identified acropora, I would be interested to see what it looks like.

My RP, I practically got for free, like 16.00, because the LFS did not know what it was even though it had the ORA, plug. I was not sure until I got it home and watched it for a month or so.

This reminds me of something I read awhile back.. In my local news paper they were talking about some scientists that apparently found some "prehistoric" coral. It lives in the veryyyy bottom of the gulf, where no light touches it.. I forget it's growth rate, but it was something like 1 inch every few hundred years or something close to that. They had pic of a big colony, that was said to be 10,000+ yrs old. I just think its amazing how coral's are actually little critter's that grow and eat in themselves. Very interesting.

Ahhh I wish there were an LFS close to me that sold SPS that cheap.. That's really the only reason I don't have more. I have the digi and the acro, oh and a rainbow monti.. I'm actually really excited to see what that end up looking like once it grows more. I haven't been to all of the fish stores in Houston, but the closest one to me that sells SPS charges out the wazoo lol no joke. Like 30 bucks for a bland 1/2 inch piece of whatever. I don't even bother to ask the price on the good looking, bigger frags haha. I'm jealous of the RP though!

I mightttt have a pic of it in my build thread, but I may not.. I'll take a pic and post it on there here in a little while, hopefully you can name it.. I bought it as "strawberry lemonade" acropora, but obviously I know that's not the real name haha.
