    Thanks to both of you.

    Steve,

I am taking it in stride. Wish it had happened to the Pocillopora instead of the Cali Tort, but it is what it is.

It seems unrealistic to expect corals from different geographical areas to all do well, I suppose, especially in a small tank.

Nice to know what worked for you, I will try putty next time instead of super glue and see what results I get.

Again thanks for the support guys.....

    Hey barbianj,

The Dragonface is for sure my next fish, down the road. Right now 2 fish presently so when they go, it's a pipe fish or two.

I wish it were pest, but I can find no mites, worms.... might be viral or bacterial pathogen though.

I feed Rod's Foods, it has everything under the sun, from carrots to oyster eggs. Tried photo for years, never noticed a difference. I am sure the sps would love Ovum (sp) though.

Back will get better if I remember I am not 25 years old anymore. ::)

    Thanks Cheryl

with the putty you push the coral complete with the section that you have covered in glue into the mound of putty and then the flesh above the putty can encrust over the putty
I found the frags encrusted back over the putty very quickly
whereas when I previously used glue, the frags did not seem very willing to encrust back over said glue? may have been a technique issue for me
or it may have been a specific coral issue, I am not sure?

I don't think it is a technique issue Steve. I realized, now that you mentioned it, that the corals that I have glued to the rocks do encrust more slowly over the glue than the putty. I would guess the surface of the glue is too smooth for the corals needs to encrust.

I have had it both ways, but with the little fragging I have done, I can not make a good judgement call.

I will say this though, that frags placed on the plastic plugs encrusted slower, frags placed on older ceramic plugs did better and frags on rubble encrusted the fastest.

It does take longer when you put the glue so far up the plugs as I did though.

    You both have convinced me
    thanks John and Cheryl

yep - the putty being a more abrasive surface than the glue makes sense
and with rock rubble being even more so, than rock rubble would be faster yet

excellent, glad I came here now

Well you should recognize it, it's the Grinder Millepora, currently being aquacultured in AZ. ;)

1st image is the nasty Hydnophora no one wants, not even the LFS.
