Just bought some corals for my tank. It's 10 months old, finally starting to get cyno under control, it's fought me tooth and nail. Anywho, I bought a piece of Anthelia, and a frag of Green Star Polyps, got them both cheap, figured if they make it a month or two, then I'll venture out and start a slow stocking process. Can't wait to get it going. I've never even heard of Anthelia until I seen it at the LFS, I thought they were Xenia at first, it looked cool, thought why not? After doing research, I saw where they can be a nuisance and get out of control if left unchecked. We'll see. Gonna take some pictures and start an album, so everyone can see the tank progress, just hope all goes well. Start on that tomorrow while I'm throwing a few cold ones back. ;)

Keep them on their own rock in the sand.

Beer and reef keeping go hand and hand IMO. I do all of my maintenance with a cold one nearby.

From what I hear, Anthelia grows similar to xenia. My xenia doubled in size in about two months. If you are really worried about keeping it in check, you can always put the anthelia on its own rock somewhere or put some rubble around it to attach to. It attaches to rock really fast and will grow over the rubble making for easy fragging.

Any particular reason why? Maybe because they can get out of control?

I concur with the beer and reef keeping. I'm off on Sundays and Mondays, so I can get my fair share of a few cold ones on Sundays. I'm looking into refugiums at the moment, and debating on which new light I'm going to buy. Is it just me or is this hobby a money pit?? Seems like I was always dumping money in my 29 gallon a few yrs back.

They just grow pretty much anywhere at a very fast rate. They don't sting, so they wont damage any other corals. But they will grow all around a coral and even on them at times. Only truly negative thing I can think of is that it could grow so much on or around a coral that it could block light.

People have different opinions on xenia/anthelia. Some love it, some consider it a pest. Personally I love inverts that move or have motion to them, so I love it. But I do have it on it's on rock that is not a keystone rock to my scape, so I can easily remove it when/if it takes over.

Haha, definitely is a rich man's hobby, that's for sure. Being a poor student, I have to spread apart my tank additions.
