coral banded shrimp died.

ive had a pair of coral banded shrimp for a while. i got them as a gift for my tank around 3 months ago. the people who had them before that had them for 1 or two years they said (their friends so i believe them). could it have died from old age or did i do something wrong? the other is fine and in their usual spot now when i found it, it had multiple legs missing, a claw missing, and a hole in its head. their was still meat in its tail and half of its head was still in tact. what happened?

 

I had almost that exact same thing happen to a really nice cleaner shrimp I had about a month ago. he was totally fine one hour, and the next half his head was knocked off along with a few legs. I really doubt any of my fish in my sig would have done this (diddn't have the blue throat trigger then). If my brittle star got to it, there would have been nothing left, only culprit left was my coral banded shrimp.

It could have died for some other reason and CBS being opportunistic the live one had a easy meal
but
my money would be on CBS V CBS squabble

I don't really have any ideas about what would of happened, better to leave that to the others who have had experience with CBS's, but man that sucks, sorry to hear

 

i thought since they were a mated pair that they would be ok and not fight.

 

Have you ever known any "mated pair" to NOT fight......;D:
