I'm looking into one of these fish for the future. I've read a ton about them. But, I've been hearing from some LFS that people have been having a hard time keeping the flame angels alive. I've also heard LA Fish Guys say the same thing. I don't know if the same can be said for the coral beauty.

So, for any of you who have or had these fish. Can you tell me how long they lived for you? What did you feed them that you found to be the best food for them? And how often do you feed them? And any other facts about them that worked for you.

I would just like to hear from owners about these fish, not just a write up on them from a online pet store.

    Thank you!

I got a flame angel as my second fish in a 55g. Its survived most things others havent, bacterial infections, tank crashes, salinity swings.

Its been always been a very active fish, that eats well, is not aggressive to others and shows alot of personality.

I also have clams, LPS and SPS and he has never nipped or bothered them at all.

    Great fish to add.

Awesome fish, but yeah, can be kinda hard to keep alive. Can nip at clams, sps, and LPS. I've never had a problem with them and love the color and personality they give the tank.

Just feed it good quality foods and try to add some live sponge for it to eat.

They def are a pro-con fish if you have corals, but I have a coral beauty;)

I have had a Coral Beauty for about a year and a half now. Great fish! Picks at the rocks all day, will eat mysis/flake/pellets out of my fingers. Never picks on anyone. Really enjoy it! Only thing is, it uses my acans like food bowls when I feed them... shes kind of a pig lol.

I have a coral beauty also. It's going on one year now that I have had him. He started out a bit shy, but now holds his own when eating. I have no problem getting mine to eat Nori, brine shrimp, and spirulina.

I did have problems with him picking at my clam when I first got it, but that seems to have stopped for the most part and both are doing well. No problems with picking at coral.

For the most part, mine seems pretty hardy! Survived me moving him from a 46G to a 125G.

I have had a flame for 8 months, very active little guy eats almost anything I throw in there including NLS pellets, mysis, RODs, chopped up green spirulina sheets, and picks at rockwork all day for food. I added some Red Sponge and after a couple weeks he never touched it so I took it out. I had a bunch of pinapple sponges that were in there that disappeared, not sure if it is because he ate them or if it was part of my tanks natural cycles. Still have some green and yellow sponge in there he doesnt touch

Thank you all for the great info! We look forward to trying both fish. We know a pet store who has them both in a tank together.

I have a coral beauty that is amazing. It nips only on the live rock, its like he knows not to mess with the corals. I tried a flame angel and he lasted a week in a established tank. My coral beauty was the first fish I bought. There very inexpensive for the color you get. Good luck on a very tough decision.

Don't do that unless you have a BIG tank, dwarf angels don't play well together!
