What do you think of this fish. I've read it's very hardy and peaceful, to other kinds of fish. not safe with all corals. anyone have one of these. do they jump? do they hide a lot? what's your favorite dwarf angel?

I picked up one last week for my reef tank. He hid alot for the first few days, but is now almost always out and about. Some individuals might nip on certain corals, but they seem to be the exception not the rule.

My favorite dwarf angels include the coral beauty, flame, and potters.

i have one and love him. very active and personable. he's always out all over the tank. i have all kinds of coral and mine has never so much as looked at any of them although i have heard of other people's taking a nip (rarely). i had an open top on my tank for 4 months and he never jumped

sounds good so far. i have a new tank that just finished cycling . there isn't much algae in it. i was thinking of getting one of these for the first fish in the tank. would it be ok without the algae?

It would be better to wait, but with a little extra work it might be OK. I get nori from the grocery store in ethnic foods or by the sushi (if they have it) and cut the sheets into quarters. Then I rubber band the nori squares to an acrylic rod in the tank for grazing. You could also band it to a rock or just put it in between a mag float.

what about if i place macro algae in the tank. there is one that looks like a fern. would it eat that? i'll try to get nori also, just to supplement.
i'd like to have something growing in the tank so that it can eat whenever it wants.

i put a rock in my tank with substantial feather culerpa plants and my beauty wiped it out in two or three days. you're probably not going to have a sustainable patch of "grazing" plants. these guys are omnivores so they will eat the meaty foods that most everything else will eat. nori or veggie flakes would be a good supplement every once and again for some variety in the diet (variety is good for fishies)

BECAREFUL adding one of these fish to a reef tank! I have said it before and ill say it again, they can be nippers!!! They are awsome fish, just know its a 50/50 chance and there are alot of people on here who will agree that a angel is NOT good in a reef tank. I personally will NEVER trust one in my tank, plus remeber if it does nip, have fun gettin him out. Rember most angels that dont nip are the exception not the rule(look at my other post you will see i stick by this saying) :) just becareful i would hate to see you lose corals and have to tear down your tank to get him out.
