just several days ago i purchased a coral beauty angelfish for my 40 gallon reef tank, i drip acclimated it along with the yellow tang i bought from the same tank. the tang upon introduction acted fine, the angel on the other hand was gasping at the surface with his body at about a forty five degree angle and apeared to not have control over his movement. then the morning after i found him dead on the sand with his fins torn to shreads. the other fish i have are a small damsel a pixy hawk the tang and 2 coral banded shrimp and a maroon clown. i dont know what can explain this peculiar behavior.

That's a fairly fiesty crew you have there.

What kind of surface agitation do you have? How long where they in the bags from the time of purchase till they got to your tank.

    And of course params good?

I was going to post this, but I didn't want to be "that" guy ;D
Let's just assume the tang is 1/2 an inch long and he's planning to upgrade

well maybe like in my case he is going to take it to the lfs once it needs a larger tank. im moving in a year so i will have to get rid of fish to travel. only reason i have my tangs or i would have never bought them. This might also be a similar case on this person's tank

ammonia is 0 nitrites and nitrates 0 ph is 8.1 theres tons of flow. i did not see the fish pick on him but the riped fins make me think otherwise. the tang is only about an inch l0ng so i think hell be ok for a bit. he was in the bag for about an hour including floating the bag and everything

also i dont test for calcium and what not, i dont have too much hard coral in my tank so i dont find it entirely necessary. and i am planning to upgrade eventuallly.

There was probably nothing picking on him until he died, the other fish tend to get stuck into a fish once it is dead.
