Coral Beauty question

Hi all I got a coral beauty almost a week from now
It looks healthy its swimming all around with other fish the only thimg I noticed is that it is not eating the food i put in like during the feeding time it hides behind the rocks while other fish are munching all over the tank
is that normal?
I see it going around the LR and like niping in it
I mean like eating something of the LR
what you think?
I hope it will not starve :-[

Your Coral Beauty is doing fine - that nipping rocks you are seeing, is her "eating" - she is an "algae" eater (and a voracious one). You also should see her going around "licking" the glass.

She will eventuntually learn to eat other food you put in tank, but they are "shy" by nature initially, and probably will take some time getting used to the other fish. Their feeding frenzy is probably scaring her off.

But that too will change in time, and likely, as mine has, become the tank hog at feeding time, being faster and nimbler then my tangs.

Don't worry, if she is hungry, and there is food around, she will eat.

its beautiful i gots lot of light for it i just dont know what water flow it needs because its not setteled in yet just walking around and how often do I have to feed it

Ok - here is what I know about anenome - first we "rookies" should steer clear of them -

Ok that said, who can resist? - those clowns have to go somewhere to "play" instead of wrecking havoc on those new softies we laid out all that cash for.

My guess you need to learn what specific things yours likes, ie food, light, clowns, etc. and what things it does not, other corals or the very worst in a small tank, another Anenome (re: "AnthonyC&quot -

If is disturbed, it will "wander" potentially doing much harm to other life in reef.

I kept all my corals in another tank when I first put in my BTA - he wandered about for 3 days, checking out every nook and cranny, top and bottom of tank, before happily settling down in one spot - surprisingly on opposite side of tank from my MH light which I did not expect. - but he is happy now.

He is tough to feed, but I am getting hang of it. - Couple times a week I use a hemostat to "carefully" give him very little pieces of Formula 1 or shrimp (Mysid, or cut from prawns gotten at grocery - He reallly like those) - but keep pieces small or he can overdose and bust open. (never bigger then 1/4 inch piece)

Another trick I learned was to put something in tank first to attract the clowns away - mine have not yet figured out they are supposed to be feeding the anenome instead of snatching away food he catches. :-/

But so far as I can tell, he is doing great - fully formed bubbles & greatly elongated arms - just gorgeous when opened up. - my clowns love him also.

My one "weird" observation so far - is that somehow the anenome and clowns "communicate" - was quite a "love ritual" to watch before he would accept them - & secondly - there are periods he somehow lets them know not to bother him - esp. when he has a piece of food and is starting to much it down. - clowns want in - but he won't let them ("somehow?&quot & and they steer clear - know this sounds goofy - but have been watching this closely for over a couple of weeks now. Don't know if normal behavior - ??

Like me, expect the more you find out, the more you find you don't know. We are all way to overconfident starting out in this hobby - but just takes one or two losses due to negligence/ignorance to learn "humilty" quick. - Am sure the same for most.
