As I've been skimming threads I seem to come across a lot of threads about coral beauties dying and getting sick and stuff. Well unfortunatly I just joined in. I've had mine for about 3 weeks. I woke up this morning and couldnt find him. I had to tear the tank apart and I found him behind a rock. DEAD. I dont know what happened. All my parameters are where they need to be. I havent changed anything or added any new fish since him. My other fish appear to be doing fine. Nothing changed in their behavior or the way they look. So I dont know what the hell happened with him.

What was its diet? Many make mistakes with them regarding feeding. Angels require a specific diet that is fortified with marine sponges. Many perish, even if looking chunky, due to the lack of sponges as a food source.

An angel specific diet is almost a must for a Coral Beauty. Ours devoured all of the pinapple sponges we had growing in the tank, and she ate Rod's food as well as her Angel food.

However, she died as well. She jumped from the tank, and we have since then taken precautions to prevent anyone else from jumping. A jumper is one of the worst deaths for a fish and fish owner IMO.

We bought another angel, though. A pygmy angel, who will hopefully stay with us for the rest of his natural life.

Yes, it needs to be fed angel food occasionally. You can get it pretty much anywhere, even the PetCo's out here have it. The most common type is frozen, but you can get some that are dry as well.

You don't need to feed them constant angel food. Just once a week or every once in a while is fine. Half of your CB's diet will actually come from just picking at the rocks in your tank. You can find special angel food at alot of pet stores, we used Ocean Nutrition Formula Two, which was recommended to us by 3reef members. Worked fine, so far as I can tell.

I have had a total of 4 over the last 13 years. Mine have lasted for years. One for only a couple of years but it died because of a heater malfunction that over heated the water. Once acclimated, they are usually very hearty.

Well, I did some research before getting him and never came across that. After I got him he just grazed. Then he started eating the ocean nutrition formula 2 along with my Tangs.
So I thought he was doing alright, but I guess not. Do the other pygmy angels need special food as well?
