    I’m working on a coral lighting census. I need everyone who has the time to please help me out. What I need is for everyone to post the following:

    Coral type
    Lighting type
    Lighting Wattage
    Depth of Coral placement from the surface of the water
    Length of your tank


    Thanks for your help. You should all see the product of this soon.

    Monti placed (just going to measure for accuracy) 9+ inches from top of coral to underside of the tubes

    pink birdsnest
    same lighting - top of coral 11 inches away from underside of tubes

    alright, here's all mine, but keep in mind that i don't know ANYTHING about coral. i have a 150 HQI MH with a 14k phoenix bulb and two 32w actinic pc's. the list goes top down

    frogspawn- 9in below water, 14kn below light. shaded by some powerheads
    monti undata- 9in water, 14in light. not directly under light because they hold heat apparently
    green birdsnest- 10in water, 15in light
    blasto merletti- 11in water, 16in light. slightly shaded
    monti cap- 17in water, 22 in light. as soon as i can frag this i'm moving it up
    duncans (whisker and bubble)- 17in water. 22in light
    neon candycane- 17in water, 22 inch light. shaded
    acan lord- 21in water, 26 light. might move up
    zoas- 21-25in water, 26-30in light
    favite- 25in water, 30 inches light
    purple and teal trumpet- 27in water, 32in light
    shrooms and gsp are pretty much everywhere

    Acro - 6" from water level
    hawkins - 4" from water level

    LPS
    Orange torch - 10 inches from water level
    Bubble coral - 12 inches from water

    Others
    Gorgonians - 10 inches
    Mushrooms - 10-14 inches in various places
    Zoos - On the bottom
    GSP Rock - 15"
    Aptasia - anywhere i can get em to grow!

    Lighting type - T5
    Approx 350 W - bulbs about 5" off the water
    4 ft tank

    I like the idea you are planning, but unless we have PAR readings, of the exact placement for each piece, this is a pretty tough thing to accurately chart regarding how certain corals do in our tanks.

    I agree.. everyone is going to have their coral in a spot that may or may not be the best spot or lighting.. So it won't really mean anything.
