Coral dying? / What type of coral is this?

    Is it shedding any slimy stuff off? If it is then it's molting and should be back to normal in a week or so. Even if it's not..I'd just let it sit unless it starts drooping and looking nasty.

    as for the star, the tips of its legs will start to curl upwards... then it will just all of the sudden die. they dont show signs until it is wayyy to late.

    Trust me on this, it WILL die in that small of a tank.

    The best sign is the age of the tank and the tank's size. Given this is tiny and brand new, that is a sure sign that star doesn't have a chance.

    I recommend you return it. And remember the LFS will sell you anything, safe or not.

    I dont think a cardinal fish is a very good choice for a 14G along with the star.. :(
