Are there any SPS or LPS that can thrive under lighting lower than MH. I have a 4 bulb fixture with 2 65w 10000k power compacts and 2 dual actinics. I'm happy with doing soft coral, but I was just curious about whether or not lower light hard coral exists.

The tank is 90 gallons. Its 4 feet long and I think about 2 feet deep. I could put it pretty high up, around a foot from the light fixture.

Also, any clams that would fit in a 90 under two 65 watt PCs

I do not think you can keep a clam long term under that lighting.

I had a horn coral under pcs. It was a frag from my SPS tank. It did not die but was not thriving so I moved it back into my bigger tank.

You might try a frag of a orange montipora cap. I cannot think of any other SPS that would live maybe someone else can though.

You can keep a frogspawn or hammer under those conditions.

Good luck with your tank. I hope all grows well.

I have a psammacora, monitpora digitata, a crocea clam and several lps under 4x54w T5s. So yes, you can have SPS and LPS under other lighting than MH. However, PC are not as intense as T5s. You can have some lps, but they would need to be high up. Your only about 3 watts per gallon, assuming that the actinics are also 65 watts, I know that is just a very generally rule of thumb, but that is not that much for many corals. I would not put a clam under those lights in that size of a tank.

yes you def can keep corals,,,, no you probaly cant keep a clam healthy,,,,,,

as far as sps i would def say they are out... but you could do some lps like frogspawn. all in the upper half of the tank . also most softies, just try some small easy frags in the upper parts of your tank to get a feel for the lights and you will get a better idea of how far down you can go by the way the corals react.
