Got a pretty good deal on this frag, wasn't doing too well when I picked him up. He was chipped and broken in about 5 places, I removed the broken fragments and placed them in crevices in my rock hoping they will recover and grow. I have this wedged between two rocks hoping it attaches itself to the rocks as it grows. Can anyone ID this for me? I know the picture sucks, but it's the purple crusted sheet looking coral with green spots on it. The other one I believe is an aquacultured candy cane(color really pops out at night with UV's on)

Just wanted to get some information on this "sheet" coral so I can do some research and hopefully the broken shards I've placed around will start to take hold and grow on their own. Very pretty but thin and "encrusting?" coral Please ID :)

Sort of. In your picture the green spots are bumps were on this they are more like indentions and I've only had it a few days but it has started extending small tenticles from around the green spots.

Looks more like this frag only with different coloration and slightly different texture. The green spots are not as well pronounced as they are in this photo but it's a pretty close match. Just havent been able to find it anywhere else and I want to be able to know whether the broken peices will grow back or if I just wasted money on a dying frag :-/ Looks good though other than the damages

Wont let me load img, but here is the link http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=597+321+468&pcatid=468 & http://www.vividaquariums.com/10Expand.asp?ProductCode=05-6021-10&Category=Coral%20And%20Invertebrates:Echinophyllia&SortBy=Price

I want to say it looks closer to the img on vividaquariums.com but the colors and texture is slightly different

Found the perfect picture, it's the purple with green spots, I think it's called Echinopora sp.

Because mine was in such bad shape I'm just wondering if the broken shards that I've stuck in holes in the LR will grow back, its very pretty and would be great if this stuff started taking over my LR - - very pretty piece that I paid next to nothing for, just awnting to get some specifics and the hardiness factor please :p

Looks to be a type of montipora then, Can't give an exact id though. Looks like one I just bought by the second picture you posted and my LFS is calling it an open brain monti. Another LFS near me calls the same thing a type of rare watermelon monti. Mine too is purple and green.

Based on the photos you are giving. They will survive if they can get light and flow.

1 rep. thank you BioFreak. They are getting enough flow and hopefully I didn't cram the fragments into too small of a hole to where they won't get light. Any thing special you think I should know about these guys? Growth rate, temperament, hardiness(you said they should be okay so I'm assuming even though my main frag is broken apart it should grow back)???
    Ty for responces..

I think it is some type of montipora or could be a chalice of some type.

I would glue the broken pieces onto a frag plug vs sticking them into a rock so that they can get more light and better flow. They will start off growing very slow and then once they hit a particular size will grow a little faster

What type of lighting do you have (and how big tank) What is your alk and calcium. With SPS IMO the most important aspect of keeping them healthy is having your alk at 10-13 and having proper lighting. Also they dont like anytype of poor water quality. Nitrates of any kind and phosphates will cause the piece to brown out very quickly,

    Nice coloration of the piece

do not have any super glue only gorilla glue which i dont think would be appropriate. the chips that broke off are getting light and good flow.

its a 29g biocube with the stupid stock lighting, pc's. hoping to someday upgrade to LEDs
