I'm interested to find out how euphyllia splits as well... I tried researching but haven't found good results...

Also interested in how walling hammers grow, too... anyone holding on to some good links out there?

it just starts growing some calcium in between the current head... then once the calcium connects, the mouth splits into two and it just grows out from there! 1 goes to 2, 2 goes to 4, 4 goes to 8, 8 goes to 16... you get the picture

My hammer Coral splits by threes for sme reason. It seems to get triangular shaped first. Then as each corner of the triangle keeps growing the middle stops. Once the ends of the triangle are unique enough the mouths split and I have a new head.

It is much easier to see this before the lights come on when the heads are still withdrawn.

    depends on
    1. lights- stronger=faster
    2. flow- less for euphillia=faster
    3. spot feeding- =faster
    4. size of the mother colony- larger it is=the more nutrients it can take in, more heads you get.
