Picked this up for $10 yesterday. It's much more orange in person. Wondering what exactly it is??

    Thanks!

Thanks as always Colailline for the quick reply. It appears to be an encrusting coral, is that right? I have it sitting halfway up on the rock right now. At the store it did appear more extended then it does now. Anything special laptastrea need?

    You're welcome.

Typical LPS conditions, mod flow, mod lighting (don't cook it) and yes encrusting. Keep the big 3 in line chemistry wise.

It comes in other cool colors, I love the green variety too.

My only experience was cooking mine under MH in 2 weeks time. :-(

    Yup.

Low to med light and flow. Yes, you can cook them.

I have it about 10 inches off the ground in my 90 gallon under 1w led's. Is that to high up? The polyps have not extended since I put it in. It is under direct light. Should I move it to a more shaded area or leave it for a few days and see how it goes?

How far away from the fixture.

This is the way I look at it with this type of LPS less is more. You'll not harm the coral by moving it down. You can however damage the coral before you even see the damage by giving it too much light.
When I have seen the coral in others aquariums it's low in the tank and sometimes not directly under lighting.

I'll defer to LED users as to the specifics regard watts and distance from the fixture.

It is about 17 inches from the fixture and 14 inches from the top of the tank. I will wait and see if any led experts chime in

It should be fine about there.
