    Thanks Steve.

Filtration system, I have two filters composed of biological filter mat and sponges type mat. Since these two filter are located on the top part of the aquarium I have not much room to play with. I didn't change my two bioligical fitler mats since 6 months actualy and there were not in good shape, so i have just replaced them both without changing the other sponge mats.

Well noted with the salt, since i top it up everyday, i will do it from now on with salt water untill reaches salt level of 1.025.

    Thanks

Beautemps - those old pads could explain the nitrates - but not the nitrites
    they should still be proccesed

its to late now I suppose but rinsing those pads in old tank water should have been 1st action rather than throw away - as bacteria required to process the waste was living there

as a general rule, never throw away any part of an existing biological filter system

has anything died recently? that may account for the high nitrite reading?

Do you have access to a product by SeaChem called Purigen?
if so might be worth adding that into your filter system as that will certainly help bring both of those high levels downwards - and will cover you against any possible damage done to your inhabitants from the discarding of old filter sponges
