    I have a green acan that is loosing it's color. It's not the deep green that it was when I bought it and is now turning a very pale green. I'm getting ready to run my battery of tests so as soon as I get those numbers I'll post them. I also have a single ricordea that isn't vibrant like I see every other ric. It's a very dull and drab color. Anyone have any ideas as to what causes a coral to loose it's color like these. Every other coral is doing just fine and not showing any color degradation. They are not near any other corals either.

    I could be they are under too much light. My rics are more dull that when I got them and I am certain it is because of my lights.

    Ok, here's everything except Mg. Gonna post these before I forget.

    Nitrite/Nitrate/Ammonia = 0
    Sg = 1.0245
    Temp = 79
    Ca = 440
    Alk = 7
    pH = 7.9
    Phosphates = 0

    I'm not sure about the lights as my ric is on the sand bed and the acan was about 4 in above the sand bed near the bottom.

    I'm thinking it might be my pH and alk seem a little low. What do you guys think?

    My first thought is, Don't panic! The last thing you want to do is start tweaking water parameters-- You may easily stress the rest of the tank into mortality.

    Are the Acan and Ricordia relatively new additions (within the past month or so)?

    It's not uncommon for corals to need acclimation to higher lighting than what they are used to. Assuming that they open and otherwise seem healthy, that's most likely the cause for the color change. Find a place low in the tank where you can block the light over them, then over a period of a few weeks, slowly increase the amount of light they receive. Once they can tolerate the full amount of light, slowly move them up to where you want them.

    Hope this helps.

    where is the acan located, they do not require a lot of light. I keep mine on the sand bed. Do you feed it anything, I target feed mine coral freenzy and small mysis and as they get bigger I give pieces of krill soaked in hufa

    Another thing about acans......is they will change colors in your tank. It has to do with the zooanthelia (sp??) in the tank. Every acan I have ever bought (i have/had at least 10) changed color somewhat when they were placed in my tank. Some of my reds turned orange, some of my greens changes shades. I even had one of my reds became rainbow colored..... so I wouldnt worry.

    The ric and acan have been in for about 3 months now. The ric lost color pretty quickly and I put it on the bottom and it's been there since with no change. The acan has slowly been loosing it's color over the past month. I haven't tweaked anything yet, it was just a thought.
