Good Points all Jason! While I love my camera, it does have some of those drawbacks. Shutter speed is slow, it is difficult to capture fish :-/ Also, like you said about the focus length, I have difficulty capturing a pic at extreme close range.

One of the main features the hubby was looking for when we bought this one, was the lens quality. It has a Carl Zeiss lens which is excellent.

I just bought this one yesterday. Cant wait to get it. That dpreview website is great. Thats what I look at when I need to find out what all that tech jargan that they use when describing features. One thing is Megapixles. Look for actual megapixles not interpolated megapixles. Heres the one I bought. Its a fugi finepix

I have yet to hear anything about the purple haze you speak of, got any links? FWIW, the most trusted aquaria photographer I know has recommended the new Cybershot to me as the best available for aquarium shots. I'll have to drop him a line and see what he says about the purple haze. I bet with a proper grey card, you could adjust the manual WB to correct the purple haze.

    Hi Gresh....
Check out the consumer comments @ circuit city.com.....

My hubby has done quite a bit of research on cameras (he is a techno weanie ;D) NY Camera and Video says the same...there is a lens problem with purple fringing. It has not been recommended by any camera shops we have been to.

I have the older cybershot and it has delayed shutter, impossible to get action shots...eg. fish swimming, etc. I do really like it for what I use it for , but I am just a casual user.

The hubby just got the new Cannon 8 mega pixel...it's really fast !

I've read many reviews, but I will go to those you've listed. I've spoken to owners of the camera who only had great things to say about their purchase. They could be trying to hide their lack of research prior to buying the camera though ;) You know, trying to save face after dropping the $$$ they did. Damn, now I have to go back to looking at high end Nikons, argg. Thanx, the CS was my way out of buying a $2K+ camera. :(

Does his new 8mp camera have the newer/larger ccd?

Huh? I don't know!!!! LOL! It was about the price range you are lookin at again :-/

I will ask him but he is not around at the moment :)

It can do real fast pics, just holding down the shutter button (it needs a special flash card to store on) fast fast fast!!!!

But you need to get the Macro lens for aquarium photos...plus the macro flash, the tripod....blah blah blah!

I'll get the details for you in a bit! ;D

Oh yeah, BTW, all the pics in my gallery were taken with the older (3 years old I think) Cybershot.

What are you taking pics for? How hi tech do you need? Just curious if you want to share.... ;D

I'm a camera buff, so I can't use some lame camera, it's got to be loaded :D I've used many of my friends high end cameras and I guess I'm now spoiled. My Nikon coolpix 4500 was nice for a average camera, but it has now seen it's last days. I'd like to get a camera that is worthy of using under water ;) It needs to be a great one for action shots for what I'd like to do. I love macto shots as well, I've got a really nice tripod waiting to be used again :D
