To add to what Steve and Curt posted, chalices are all the rage now so the prices are jacked up way more than they were before becoming a "fad". Seems that before chalices, acans were the "have to have coral" and their prices reflected that. Now that the acan fad has passed somewhat, the prices are dropping dramatically.

I totally agree. The chalices are the must have coral right now. I'm in the reptile breeding industry and I've seen snakes priced at $3,000 about 4 years ago down to about $300. Soon as the newness and the popularity dies down so will the price.

That all makes sense. The beauty for me is that it is all new to me. I am thrilled and enjoyed my tiny Green Star Polyp and mushrooms and ricordea. Nothing fancy by others standards but new and cool to me. I am perfectly happy with the simple and anti-fad. It'll still make a beautiful tank. In time I'll get more complex and probably more expensive, but for the time being I'll pass on the fad.

    Thanks for explanations everyone.

I have seen corals going for over 1000...even over 1500. They arent little frags though, but still not that big. Maybe 3"x4". Still more then I could ever justify on a coral. They do look very awesome though.
