Coral Problem?

    I wouldn't do that. If he/she accidentally brushes the healthy tissue, it could very well start a RTN event. If I was going to do anything, I'd snip the dead ends off.

    Dont gentley remove the algae with a soft toothbrush! Cut the ends off instead ;) ha ha

    should be ok, but i do not think it is a birdsnest, i could be wrong and i do not have much SPS but all of the birdsnest i have seen look different than that.

    1st question is What type lighting do you have and what are the Ca and DKH and mag levels of the water running at ?

    2.nd have you ever kept acroporas before ? or any experience at all with SPS coals ?

    If you get it happy by meeting its light and water quality requirements and get it to start growing it will regrow over the dead spots . I would not brush it with anything .

    For lighting I have 2 -250w MH with 4-55w PC's. I have about 9 or 10 others SPS corals in the tank doing pretty well, including some acros.

    Ca is 440
    Mg is 1300
    Ph is 8.23
    Temp is 79.6
    Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate=0
    Salinity is 1.024
    Kh is 14 - I cant seem to lower this for some reason! Unless I have a bad test kit.

    lower your alk and cut the bad parts off and refrag the rest
