I have a question about some coral skeleton I am using as decoration in my tank. Does this have any redeeming value of being in my tank or should I just take it out and replace with base rock? Any opinions. Does not look like any coralline is taking to it as it has with my other base rock.

It will eventually become live rock.

Have you ever seen anything like these get covered in coralline and even though it will become live rock would it be just as good as getting another kind of base?

It will get covered in coralline. It really depends on your personal preference if you want to keep it or get different base rock.

To my knowledge, that's what most of the liver rock in the ocean is made of, coral skeletons. I had a piece of LR with a dead stony polyp colony (that I once thought, in my newbieness, could revive and come back), and it has fit in nicely in the tank; adds good texture.

If you like it, go ahead and keep it and it'll color up after a while. It should be just as good as store-bought LR after a while and it will cost a lot less.
