I have a new coral. A Xenia Waving Hand coral that keep retracting its arms and hands real tight and squishing itself together. I looks like something is hurting it. Does anybody know what this means? What should I do?it's a 10 gallon tank and as far as lighting I think it is 26 watts? It was some of the best lighting they had in the store so I think it's pretty liggit. I have 2 xenia waving hand corals. I got them at the same tim on dec31st .I also have a clownfish and a peppermint shrimp. I have Added a few drops of phytoplankton and have also done a water change today. They seem better but one of them isn't clapping like the other is.
Also, this may seem like a stupid question but when u purchase the coral and it's already on a rock, do u need to take it off the rock and attach it to my rock? Thanks for all the help guys!

Xenia sometimes will stay closed in a new tank for a couple of weeks.

If a coral is on a rock, just find a place in your tank to put the rock. There is no need to remove the coral.

I hear sometimes xenia pulse more if you supplement just the right amount of iodide/iodine. How long has that 10 gallon been setup and what do you maintain your water parameters at?

Just like fish, coral needs to acclimate. It won't be quite itself for anywhere between a couple days to even a couple weeks. It'll be fine.
