It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Soft corals are considered to be the easiest corals to care for. Most will tolerate less than ideal water conditions. They can thrive and reproduce in a tank without all the bells and whistles. Intense lighting usually not needed. They also lack the hard calcarous skeleton found in LPS and SPS. Soft corals can provide a lot of movement to the tank as they sway in the current.

LPS, for the most part can do well at lower levels in the tank and also grow well under T5, and power compacts, LED. Metal halide is usually not needed. They have the hard calcarous skeleton as a base with large polyps covering a portion of that skeleton. Some can also provide the appearence movement in a tank. Most will usually accept pieces of meaty seafood when target feed.

SPS develop the hard skeleton with tissue covering and small type polyps. Many grow in a branching pattern or encrusting. Prestine water conditions, intense lighting T5, metal halid, LED. Usually found higher in the tank in an area with moderate to high flow and instense lighting. Condsider to be some of the hardest corals to grow. They may require addition of supplemental elements such as calcium, magnesium.....

    Acropora
    Montipora
    Pocillopora
    Stylophora......

These are generalizations and I hope it assist in answering your post.
