I uploaded few videos on youtube. I was wondering if you guys could tell me which rendering looks better the 720p or the 1080i.

It's the Pulsing Xenia video which i uploaded both in 720p and 1080i so you can compare them next to each other.

When you go to the link, on the bottom right please click "watch in HD" so you can see the video in higher resolution.

    Thanks

I tried playing both at once, my video card didn't like that at all... I couldn't tell the difference, but very nice xenia!

Thanks. You don't have to play them at once but it helps a lil bit. I have a pretty fast card and it stresses my computer when playing both of them.

Maybe your video card has Ich lol...just joking

I can't watch the videos here at work, but as a general rule of thumb 720p is more preferable over 1080i. Whilst the latter obviously uses a larger resolution, the interlaced picture can't compare to the former's progressive scan when the subject matter moves quickly.

48khz audio will make the filesize larger without offering much of a benefit in this situation. Most will not hear the difference.

Thats true. Im still trying to figure out how to put my camera in 720p. I prefer 720p over 1080i but this Canon HV30 has some strange options. It records natively at 1080i, im sure it has 720p aswell. I don't think the 48khz makes that much of a difference in size but you are right, the audible difference is neglegable.

I just got this thing 2 days ago, still trying to figure out the best way to record.

    I would suggest using 24p (HDV24) mode.

Pretty sure only JVC's HDV cameras can do 720p to tape. All others are 1080i. HDV24p mode however will basically embed a 1440x1080 progressive video within the 1080i stream that is saved to tape, which you can then extract via pulldown using your video editing software. At least that's my understanding.

To be honest, though, I think the native standard capture mode isn't ugly by any means and may be more feasible than going the slightly more involved 24p route. Hopefully your manual explains 24p better than i can.

720p and 1080i are almost identical, the only difference is how the picture is displayed as HP sauce said above. Has anyone seen 1080p, i know they have came out with those.

Considering youtube compresses the video/audio again I don't think it particularly matters.

I would stick with progressive scan for the video of the pulsing xenia which you watch personally on your own computer, or for burning high resolution video to a disc (blu ray/dvd-rom).
