Well no matter what you'll want timers, even the cheap 5 buck timers is good.

From window shopping around my self i see fish tanks w/hoods +lighting. I don't think it's really for saltwater IMO. I would goto the store like home improvement stores and look for saltwater/coral 18" light bulbs "should be 5-6 bucks per"

    Hope it helps,
    Mike

This is kind of like saying I want a puppy but I don't have any Puppy Chow or a food bowl yet but some day in the future, you intend to buy some dog food.

Get the lighting. Then ask what animals can be kept with it.

    Hi Brian

You have PCS at present I believe? and you want T5s X 4
IME on this site many people do keep some corals under PCS and hopefully they will be on later and remind us both what it is they do keep and under how much PC light

Im a T5 user myself - 6 x 80 watt - which gives me confidence and lots of options for species that my lighting is adequate for - (my experience of anything other than begginer corals is limited so whilst my lights may be good to go, I still stay with the easy stuff for now)

Zoanthids, Mushroom rocks, Green star polyps, leather corals, toad stools,
Clove polyps, yellow polyps, - these are all in the begginers corals bracket - as to whether your PCS are adequate, Ill let PC users reply

but it you get 4 x T5 or even better 6 x T5s - as far as lighting goes, I know the above species would be good choices

oh and some LPS would be good also, I have a Torch and a bubble under mine and doing really well at present

    Steve

I don't get the feeling he has power compacts, Steve. I think he has the garden variety molded plastic wood-tone fluorescent tube pair that comes with many aquariums for FW setup.

If this is the case, I'm afraid it won't cut it. Not even for softies.

Gorgonians and Sun Coral do not need light but they do require very good water quality and dedication to regular feeding, not exactly beginner corals.
