Hi i bought this coral a week ago today and it has never really opened up.

The store said it was a "galaxy" coral and it looked ok in shop.

I added it in the usual way by floating the bag to get temp, and by dripping tank water in to stabalise ph.

As some of you are aware i had some issues last week with phosphates and im wondering could this be the cause??

there are a few small buds appearing but the whole thing hasnt opened up for a week!

    Any advice??

p.s. I did big water change and changer GFO so hopfully that has resolved po4 issue.

Is your calcium above 400? These like high light and moderate flow – trace elements (and strontium) are important to a galaxy.

Your coral appears healthy, no bleaching noticeable in the pic – be patient and he will open up.

Looks healthy to me. As for the galaxy part... It doesnt look at all like mine, It looks more like my Metallic Green Star Polyps when they are closed. I could be wrong though. Wouldn't surprise me.

To be honest the guy i bought it off doesnt seem to knowlegable when i ask him about corals!! I would be more inclined to take your word for it that its star polyps
(star/ galaxy can you see his confusion!)

The calcium was rather high last week before i did the water change, is that good or bad? if so how do i fix?

I have two T5's and the coral is placed at the top of the tank.

Should i just wait and be patient with it?

Its an easy coral when closed to confuse with green star’s – generally stars will have more holes (but not always).

Water changes will adjust the calcium – stick to a weekly regiment and I suspect you will be just fine. Please keep us posted. Good luck.

it should be fine, it is star polyps and they are pretty hardy. It sometimes takes a week for them to open up after introduction
