    hi The Shaved Bird

a few things need to be taken into consideration - what sized tank, what lighting etc
but if the above are all OK and the tank is finished cycling ( Ammonia, Nitrite tested, climbed and fell back to zero) and your brown diatom stage is over

    good begginer corals IME are

Green star polyps ( my 1st coral in 4 reef tanks started )
    Zoanthid / button polyps
    Yellow polyps
    Mushroom colonies
    clove polyps
    soft finger corals - leathers
    Toadstool corals - leathers

these would be the species I would select with any new set up, although I always wait until tank has been set up and running for 12 weeks before adding my 1st coral
    some add sooner

    Steve

Just be careful with zoas and star polyps, especially the star polyps. They can spread like crazy and take over a tank if you're not careful. Not everyone wants that. :)
Isolate them on their own rock if you can.

I would vote zoas, they're my favorite of the easy soft corals and have some great colors.
